Shadowbdancing rolls to fourth stakes win of 2010
Monday, August 23, 2010
Shadowbdancing, the leading earner of 2010 for his sire Montbrook, went gate-to-wire to take the $150,000 Governor's Cup at Remington Park on Aug 21. Ocala Stud's Montbrook has ten stakes winners on the year, tops among Florida sires, and the 20-year-old is ranked fourth on the state's general sire list, with over $2 million in earnings.

In the 1 1/16-mile Governor's Cup, Shadowbdancing went right to the front, showing by 1 1/2-lengths after just a quarter mile. He maintained a similar margin the length of the backstretch. Longshot Kick On applied plenty of pressure on the turn and the length of the stretch, but could not get by the cagey 5-year-old. The final margin was a half length. Shadowbdancing stopped the clock in 1:43.78 and earned a 94 Beyer Speed Figure, equaling his highest number of 2010.

Shadowbdancing earned $90,000 for the win, which was his fourth in six starts this year. He has been remarkably consistent throughout his four years of racing, amassing a record of 11-5-3 in 26 starts, earning $713,745.  Six of the nine wins have come in stakes, further testament to his ability to handle top-class competition.

In addition to being sired by Ocala Stud's two-time leading Florida sire, Shadowbdancing was also raised and sold by the Florida operation. The dark bay or brown horse was consigned by Ocala Stud to the 2007 OBS February select sale of 2-year-olds, where he brought a final price of $200,000 from Robert and Nancy Bartels, for whom he still races. He is trained by Terrel Gore.
