Wednesday, January 17, 2024

Ocala Stud’s Grade 1 winners Roadster and Colonel Liam have both sired their first reported foals, the farm announced today.

Roadster, a son of perennial leading sire Quality Road and winner of the Santa Anita Derby (G1), sired his first foal when a filly out of the Kiss the Kid mare Yooou Den was born on Jan. 8. Dominique Damico bred the filly, whose dam was a 12-time winner and an earner of $185,340. Colonel Liam, a two-time winner of the Pegasus Turf Invitational S. (G1), was represented by his first foal when a filly out of the winning Jess’s Dream mare More Glory was born on Jan. 12. The filly was bred by Peter Mirabelli.

Roadster captured the 2019 Santa Anita Derby (G1), defeating stablemate Game Winner—the previous year’s Eclipse Award-winning 2-Year-Old Male Champion. In addition to his signature win, Roadster finished second in the Malibu S. (G1) to Omaha Beach, was second in the San Carlos S. (G2), and was runner-up to Grade 1 winner Mucho Gusto in the Affirmed S. (G3). Roadster is out of the stakes-winning and stakes-producing Silver Ghost mare Ghost Dancing and is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner and Keeneland track-record setter Ascend. Roadster was sold by his breeder—Arthur Hancock III’s Stone Farm—at the Keeneland September Sale for $525,000.

Colonel Liam is a back-to-back winner of the $1 million Pegasus Turf Invitational Stakes (G1) at Gulfstream Park. He also won the $1 million Turf Classic S. (G1) at Churchill Downs, recording a 102 Beyer Speed Figure. Colonel Liam was a $1.2 million graduate of the OBS Spring Sale, where he was purchased by Jacob West on behalf of Robert and Lawana Low after breezing a quarter in an eye-catching :20 4/5. A son of Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner Liam’s Map, a half-brother to leading sire Not This Time, Colonel Liam is produced from the Bernardini mare Amazement and hails from the family of multiple Grade 1 winner Wonder Again, his second dam.

Roadster bred 153 mares in his first season at stud in 2023, and he stands for $7,500 S&N. Colonel Liam bred 138 mares in his first season at stud in 2023, and he stands for $6,500 S&N.
