Hot Rod Honey drew off with authority in the final furlong of the $100,000 Sharp Susan S. Friday at Gulfstream Park to become the first stakes winner for Roadster.
The dark bay 2-year-old, who won her debut a month ago at Gulfstream, is undefeated in two starts. She is one of four winners to date for Roadster, who is currently fourth on the 2026 First-Crop Sire list.
Hot Rod Honey settled nicely in third as Colombina showed the way down the backstretch and around the turn. Coming into the final quarter-mile, Colombina had a two-length lead over Hot Rod Honey, but the eventual winner switched to the inside and found her best running, blowing by the pacesetter to win going away by 4 ¼-lengths.
“I loved the way she won when she broke her maiden, stalking the pace. When I saw that, I knew I had something good,” trainer Carlos David said. “Today, she handled the heat well. I think she’s going to be OK. I think she’s going to grow a little bit. She’s a little slim but she’s a good size, not too low to the ground.”
Owned by Troy Johnson, Wendell Yates and Robert Fritts, Hot Rod Honey has earned $96,050 in her two victories. She was bred in Florida by the Estate of Brereton C. Jones.
