Veteran Shadowbdancing wins second stakes of 2012
Saturday, July 28, 2012
Seven-year-old Shadowbdancing, the leading earner of 2012 for his sire Montbrook, rolled to a dominating seven length victory in the $100,000 Prairie Meadows H. July 28 at Altoona, Iowa track to become racing's newest $1 million earner (VIDEO). Ocala Stud's Montbrook has ranked at the top of the Florida stallion register four different years, and is Florida's all time leading sire of stakes winners and stakes horses.

The 1 1/4-mile marathon proved no problem for Shadowbdancing. Dueling through a surprisingly quick half-mile in :46.90 seconds, Shadowbdancing started to pull away approaching the six furlong mark. After a mile in 1:36.26, the dark bay Florida bred was up by 2 1/2-lengths and drawing off from his competition, ultimately stopping the timer in 2:03.41.

Shadowbdancing earned $60,000 for the win, and is 2-1-1 in five outings this year. He has been remarkably consistent throughout his four years of racing, amassing a record of 15-7-6 in 40 starts, earning $1,000,147.  He has won a dozen stakes and placed in ten others in his remarkable career, highlighted by the Grade 2 Cornhusker H. in 2009.

Shadowbdancing was raised and sold by Ocala Stud. The dark bay or brown horse was consigned by Ocala Stud to the 2007 OBS February select sale of 2-year-olds, where he brought a final price of $200,000 from Robert and Nancy Bartels, for whom he still races. He is trained by Terrel Gore.
