Awesome Strong, who was Awesome Slew’s first winner as a sire, became his first stakes winner as well on Saturday with a dominating score in the $100,000 Dr. Fager S. at Gulfstream Park.

Awesome Strong was part of a contentious early pace in the six-furlong race as he led the field through a quarter in :22.06. He shook clear of the field on the turn and was not seriously threatened the rest of the way, drawing away late to win by 4 ¾-lengths.

Awesome Strong, who is owned by CSLR Ranch Partners, won his May 6 debut by six lengths and has now earned $98,000 in his two victories.

Bred in Florida by John Penn, Awesome Strong is a half-brother to four-time stakes winner Bad Debt. This is also the family of Grade 2 winners Chimes Band and Freefourinternet.

Awesome Slew is currently second on Florida’s First-Crop sire list, trailing only fellow Ocala Stud stallion Girvin, who had two winners on Saturday.
