Angel’s Tune gave seven rivals of a devil of a time on August 9, becoming the third maiden special weight winner in the past five days for High Cotton.
Already Florida’s leading freshman sire by earnings, High Cotton’s latest winner is his sixth, giving him double the number of winners of any other first-year stallion in Florida. High Cotton ranks second among all North American freshman sires by winners, and among the top 10 by earnings.
Angel’s Tune was heavily favored in the $42,000 maiden special event contested over a flat mile on the sloppy main track. The gray/roan colt tracked the early speed for five furlongs before tackling the leader and dueling to mid-stretch. Angel’s Tune shook clear, then withstood a late rally by a longshot to triumph by ¾ of a length.
Bred in Florida by his owner, E. Paul Robsham Stables LLC, Angel’s Tune is trained by Todd Pletcher and was ridden to victory by Julian Pimentel. Out of the winning Concorde’s Tune mare Holiday Tune, he is from the direct family of Raise a Native. Second dam is a stakes winner by Danzig, third dam is Graded stakes winner Kapalua Butterfly, and fourth dam is Aces Swinging, a full sister to Raise a Native.
