Shelli's Dream breaking her maiden at Fair Grounds in February - Lou Hodges photo

Jess’s Dream’s Shelli’s Angel made it back-to-back victories at Fair Grounds recently when she annexed an allowance race on March 18 following a 2 ½-length score in a six-furlong maiden special weight event in February. The homebred for Chad and Shelli Ladner is now a two-time winner this season with total earnings of $70,270.

Produced from the winning Lite the Fuse mare Annies Fuse, Shelli’s Angel was impressive in breaking her maiden. The chestnut filly rated in fourth position early, was eased out nearing the quarter pole, and made a three-wide bid leaving the turn. She took command in the lane and drew clear in the late stages to prove best over seven rivals. She stretched out to one mile and seventy yards for her most recent win. Once again, she stalked the early pace from the inside, tipped out for the stretch run and collared the pacesetter Graceleadsushome in approaching the wire to prevail by a half-length at the finish.

Jess’s Dream currently ranks third on Florida’s list of leading general sires with progeny earnings of $578,203. By Curlin out of Rachel Alexandra, by Medaglia d’Oro, Jess’s Dream is the only horse at stud by a Horse of the Year and out of a Horse of the Year. He stands for $4,000 S&N.
