Shadowbdancing shows class at Fonner Park
Sunday, April 25, 2010
Shadowbdancing, a veteran stakes performer by Montbrook, shipped from his Chicago base to Fonner Park in Nebraska to score a clear-cut victory in the $77,250 Bosselman/Gus Fonner S. at the historic mid-western track.

In addition to being sired by Ocala Stud's two-time leading Florida sire, Shadowbdancing was also raised and sold by the Florida operation. Now a 5-year-old, the dark bay or brown horse was consigned by Ocala Stud to the 2007 OBS February select sale of 2-year-olds, where he brought a final price of $200,000 from Robert and Nancy Bartels, for whom he still races.

The 1 1/16-mile Bosselman was a three-turn affair on the half-mile oval. Shadowbdancing was very confidently ridden by Eddie Razo, Jr., who let a pair of horses duke it out on the front end for the first six furlongs. Razo moved his mount towards the front nearing the final turn, sweeping by at the top of the short stretch. He eased up in the final strides, geared down to win by 4 1/4-lengths.

Shadowbdancing earned $45,000 for the win, which was his second in as many starts for the year. He had an excellent 2009 as well, hitting the board in six of eight efforts. He has been remarkably consistent throughout his four years of racing, amassing a record of 9-4-3 in 22 starts, earning $430,495.  Six of the nine wins have come in stakes, further testament to his ability to handle top-class competition.
