R Adios Jersey gets her second straight win in the City of Ocala S. - SV Photography
Adios Charlie’s classy 4-year-old filly R Adios Jersey collected her third career stakes win Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs with a handy score in the $100,000 City of Ocala S.
The bay filly won this same race a year ago by 11 lengths, considerably more than Saturday’s 1 ¾-length tally, though she looked in complete control the entire seven-furlong trip.
After breaking on top, R Adios Jersey settled nicely in stride to lead the field through fractions of :22.42 and :44.99. When asked at the top of the lane, she responded willing and easily held off her competition to finish the distance in 1:23.59 on a fast track.
“You always worry coming in off a layoff, but I’m glad to see her back running,” co-owner Rich Averill of Bradenton, Fla., said. “Hopefully she comes back from it good, and she can go on to something a little better, maybe.”
R Adios Jersey, bred by Ocala Stud and Michael O’Farrell, Jr., had been off since late May. Averill owns the filly with Jayson Werth. Her record is now a stellar 6-1-0 in nine starts, with earnings of $270,250.
R Adios Jersey has an unraced 2-year-old Greenpointcrusader half-brother named Bernard Theatre, a yearling half-sister by The Big Beast and a weanling Win Win Win half-sister. Her dam returned to Adios Charlie for 2023.
