Multiple graded stakes winner Prospective, a son of leading sire Malibu Moon, sired his first foal late Tuesday, Jan. 13 when a colt was born at J. Michael O’Farrell Jr.’s Ocala Stud Farm, where Prospective is standing stud in Florida.
Bred and owned by Ocala Stud, the dark bay colt with a white blaze is out of the stakes-placed mare Amazer, who broke her maiden at Saratoga before becoming stakes-placed as a juvenile.
Campaigned by John Oxley, Prospective was a winner in seven of 17 lifetime starts on the track, including graded stakes victories at both two and three. The striking, dark bay colt won the Grey S. (G3) as a 2-year-old before going on to win the Tampa Bay Derby (G2), Ohio Derby (G2), Pasco S., Victoria Park S., and Delta Mile S. as a 3-year-old at four different racetracks. He retired with earnings of $719,130.
Bred by Spendthrift Farm, Prospective is out of the stakes-winning Awesome Again mare Spirited Away. The son of Malibu Moon was a $250,000 yearling purchase by Oxley and trainer Mark Casse at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Sale.
Prospective covered 113 mares in his first book in 2014. He is set to stand his second season at Ocala Stud in 2015 for a fee of $5,000 S&N.
