Prospective, G2 winner by Malibu Moon, retires to Ocala Stud
Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Prospective, Malibu Moon’s Grade 2-winning earner of $719,130, has been retired from racing and will stand at J. Michael O’Farrell Jr.’s Ocala Stud in Florida for the 2014 breeding season. His stud fee will be announced at a later date.

A winner of seven of 17 lifetime starts, Prospective was a graded stakes winner at both two and three for trainer Mark Casse and owner John Oxley. The striking, dark bay colt broke his maiden at Woodbine before stretching out around two turns to win the Grey S. (G3) in his next start.

As a 3-year-old, Prospective wintered in Florida and showed an affinity for Tampa Bay Downs. He made his seasonal debut with a win in the Pasco S. at seven furlongs, and then jumped onto the Kentucky Derby trail by finishing a close second in the Sam F. Davis S. (G3). In his next start, Prospective added blinkers and scored his biggest career victory in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2).

Prospective returned to Woodbine last summer and continued his winning ways in the Victoria Park S. He made it back-to-back wins with a decisive victory in the Ohio Derby (G2), giving him his second Derby win of the year. Prospective closed out his 3-year-old campaign with a win over older horses in the Delta Mile S, giving him stakes wins at four different racetracks.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to stand such a grand-looking son of Malibu Moon as Prospective,” said Mike O’Farrell. “With his looks, breeding, race record, and the class he shows, I think breeders will absolutely love him. We look forward to supporting him with plenty of our own mares.”
