Prospective winning the 2018 Coronation Cup - Susie Raisher/NYRA

Broadway Run forged to the front in the first furlong en route to a hard-fought victory in Monday's $100,000 Coronation Cup over the Saratoga turf course.

The 3-year-old Prospective filly was making her stakes debut in the 5 1/2-furlong contest after breaking her maiden in her first start on May 5, then running a close second in a May 31 allowance race, both at Belmont Park.

Broadway Run broke from the outside post in the field of 10, but was hustled to the lead by Luis Saez, then relaxed nicely on the turn before putting in a valiant stretch run to hold off the late charge of Originator by three-quarters of a length. The final time on the “good” turf was 1:03.67.

Broadway Run upped her earnings to $115,400 for Curragh Stables. She was bred in Florida by Ocala Stud. She is the second foal out of Lady Carlotta, and her second dam Lady Discreet is a sister to Grade 1 winners Discreetly Mine and Discreet Cat.

Prospective is ranked second on Florida's Second-Crop Sire list by both winners and progeny earnings, and is the only one in the top five to have a winners from runners ratio of more than 50%.
