The 2013 Joe O'Farrell Memorial Award was presented to Ocala Stud at the 54th Annual FTBOA Awards Gala on March 9 at the Circle Square Cultural Center in Ocala, as the original consignor of Florida-bred Grade 1 stakes winner Asia Express.

Also bred by Ocala Stud, Asia Express was sold for $230,000 at the 2013 Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's March 2-year-olds in training sale. The 2011 colt by Henny Hughes out of Running Bobcat, by Running Stag, was purchased by Narvick International. Racing for Yukio Baba in Japan, Asia Express won the Asahi Hai Futurity (G1-JPN) at Nakayama Race Course. Undefeated in three starts on the season, Asia Express earned $858,940.

The Joe O'Farrell Memorial Award is presented annually by OBS to the original consignor of the year's best Florida-bred racehorse offered at public auction in Florida. The award is named after Joe O'Farrell, who was part of the syndicate that founded Ocala Stud in 1956 and who was a pioneer in establishing public Thoroughbred auctions in Florida.
