Noble Bird filly rallies strongly for second stakes win
Saturday, April 16, 2022

Strategic Bird’s sweeping move into the stretch carried the 3-year-old Noble Bird filly to a 3 ½-length win in the $75,000 Cheryl S. White Memorial S. on April 16 at Mahoning Valley.

The bay filly, who broke her maiden by a dozen lengths in November, then followed that up with a victory in the Sandpiper S., is now 3-0-2 in five starts and has earned $115,100.

She is the second stakes winner and the tenth overall winner in 2022 for Noble Bird, who leads the Florida Second-Crop list in both categories as well as by progeny earnings.

Making her first start on an off track, Strategic Bird was much further back off the pace than in her previous outings. With heavy traffic in front of her most of the way, she was forced to go eight-wide coming into the stretch. She was in full flight as she rolled by the field and won going away in 1:12.67 for the six furlongs on a muddy surface.

Strategic Bird is owned by Gary Barber and was bred in Kentucky by the John Oxley Trust. Strategic Bird’s third dam is multiple Grade 1 winner Educated Risk, who is a half-sister to Hall of Famer Inside Information. Strategic Bird’s dam Strategize produced full brothers to the filly in both 2021 and this year.
