Musical Romance's stellar performance the $150,000 Inside Information S. (G2) March 17 at Gulfstream Park (VIDEO) proved that the 2011 Eclipse Award winning Female Sprint Champion still had plenty of run left for the 2012 campaign.

The Ocala Stud bred 5-year-old mare, who wrapped up her championship season with a win in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) in November, was making her second start of 2012, following a fourth-place finish in Gulfstream's Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Sprint S. in January.

The seven-furlong Inside Information, who sat patiently in fourth for nearly the entire trip. Jockey Juan Leyva was simply waiting for the right time, and when a hole opened in deep stretch, the Florida-bred mare shot to the lead very quickly to win by three parts of a length. The time for the seven panels was a very good 1:21.88, slightly more than a second off the track record and earning a 95 Beyer Speed Figure.

“I was in tight a little bit, but it was just a matter of being patient, waiting,” Leyva said. “I know once I ask this filly she’s going to go through anything. This filly is awesome.”

“I call Juan ‘The Iceman,’ said winning trainer Bill Kaplan, who owns the daughter of Concorde’s Tune in partnership with Pinnacle Racing Stables. “He just sat in that pocket and waited, and then got through. I was afraid it wouldn’t open up, but then she came on through there.”

Musical Romance earned $90,000 for her 10th victory in 35 starts, boosting her career bankroll to $1,315,350. Kaplan mentioned a possible three-race schedule, all Grade 1's, for Musical Romance: the Vinery Madison S. at Keeneland (Apr. 12), the Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs (May 5) and the Princess Rooney S. at Calder (July 7).
