Mr. Jordan makes the grade in Pegasus S. (G3)

Kantharos’ flashy gray 3-year-old son Mr. Jordan, winner of two previous listed stakes, upped his game with a head victory in the $157,500 Pegasus S. (G3) Sunday at Monmouth Park.

Kantharos is the leading Second-crop sire in Florida this year, continuing his momentum from last year when he topped the Sunshine State’s First-crop list.

Away from the races since winning the Tarpon S. at Gulfstream in late April, Mr. Jordan was keen early and chased pacesetter Tekton closely until midstretch, when he surged to the lead on the outside.  Paco Lopez kept Mr. Jordan to the task, winning by a head and stopping the timer in 1:42.71 for the mile and sixteenth over a fast main track.

“He’s been off and he ran real well today,” said winning trainer Eddie Plesa, Jr.  “He’s the type of horse that’s always feeling good and does what he likes.  We’ll look at the Haskell (Grade 1, $1 million at Monmouth on Aug. 2), obviously, but wait to see how he comes out of this.”

Out of the Cloud Hopping mare Miss Skeetd, Mr. Jordan now sports a record of 4-2-0 from six starts, good for earnings of $253,095 for his trio of owners David Melin, Leon Ellman and Laurie Plesa.
