Montbrook filly impresses again, hot on Oaks trail
Saturday, February 27, 2010
Montbrook's 3-year-old daughter Amen Hallelujah scored her second graded stakes win of 2010 with an emphatic 6-1/4 length victory in the Davona Dale (G2) Feb. 27 at Gulfstream Park. She had previously taken the Santa Ynez (G2) Jan. 16 at Santa Anita.

In the one-mile Davona Dale, Amen Hallelujah faced a strong field that included 4-5 favorite Bickersons.  The favorite had the lead for the first five furlongs of the one-turn race, but Amen Hallelujah took over nearing the top of the stretch, and drew off to win with ease under Julien Leparoux. The impressive victory earned her a career-high 100 Beyer Speed Figure, and it puts her among the favorites for the Kentucky Oaks (G1).

Amen Hallelujah was making her first start on dirt after seven on synthetic tracks at Arlington Park, Keeneland, Hollywood Park and Santa Anita. Still, trainer Rick Dutrow, Jr. had no qualms about her ability to handle a traditional dirt surface. “I brought her back from California just to run in this race. I’ve always thought she’d be better on dirt. She trains better on dirt than the synthetic,” said Dutrow.

Amen Hallelujah earned $90,000 Saturday to increase her earnings to $312,370 for owners IEAH Stables and Whizway Farms. The win was her fourth overall from eight starts, which includes one second to go along with a pair of thirds in the Alcibiades and Hollywood Starlet, both Grade 1 races.

Amen Hallelujah was bred in Florida by Thorobeam Farm and hails from the multiple stakes-winning Concorde’s Tune mare Sara’s Success. She was a $40,000 Keeneland September yearling graduate in 2008.
