Kantharos, undefeated multiple GSW juvenile, to Ocala Stud
Tuesday, November 6, 2012

Kantharos, the undefeated multiple graded stakes-winning juvenile by Lion Heart, has been relocated to J. Michael O'Farrell Jr.'s Ocala Stud to stand for the upcoming 2013 breeding season. The 4-year-old stallion had previously stood at Vinery Florida.

“We're thrilled to have the opportunity to add an exciting young stallion prospect like Kantharos to our roster,” said O'Farrell. “I think everybody understands how dominant and precocious of a racehorse he was, as well as how physically good-looking of a stallion he is. But what sold me was how he's passing those looks down to his offspring. We have a couple of his first weanlings here on the farm and they're outstanding individuals, and we're hearing great things around town about his babies. It's always a good sign to see a stallion stamping them like he is.”

A $250,000 purchase by Stonestreet Stables, Kantharos was one of the top 2-year-olds in the country in 2010. The handsome chestnut broke his maiden by 11 ¾ lengths at first asking in a sizzling :57 4/5 seconds at Churchill, before dominating the Bashford Manor S. (G3) by 9 ½ lengths at the end of the meet. Kantharos went on to win the Saratoga Special S. (G2) in another dominating performance to, winning by 7 ¼ lengths and completing an undefeated and untested juvenile campaign.

Kantharos, whose first foals are weanlings of 2012, is by the perennial leading juvenile sire, Lion Heart, currently No. 3 on the 2012 Juvenile Sires list. He hails from the multiple graded stakes-producing Southern Halo mare, Contessa Halo.

A 2013 fee for Kantharos will be announced at a later date. For more information, please contact Joe O'Farrell at 352-237-2171.
