Hip 223 - $300K at Fasig-Tipton

An eye-grabbing colt by undefeated multiple graded stakes winner Kantharos created a buzz Monday at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale in central Kentucky, bringing a final bid of $300,000 from agent Mark Casse to represent the single highest price for a yearling colt at the sale.

Hip No. 223 was consigned by Warrendale Sales on behalf of owner Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, LLC, and purchased by Conquest Stables, who has been very active at several auctions this year.

The bay colt, bred in Florida, is out of the winning Silver Deputy mare Candescent, who is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner As You Like. The colt's catalog page page is loaded with black-type winners, including Grade 1 La Brea S. winner Alphabet Kisses, champion Preciosa V., Vanity H. (G1) winner A Kiss for Luck, and Grade 2 winner Queen's Barn.

Kantharos was a brilliant undefeated 2-year-old, taking the Saratoga Special (G2) by seven lengths and Bashford Manor S. (G3) by nine after breaking his maiden by a dozen at Churchill Downs. Kantharos joined the Ocala Stud stallion roster in late 2012, and stood the 2013 for $5,000 LFS&N.
