High Cotton filly powers to victory in Saratoga debut
Sunday, August 14, 2016
Zero Zee's determined stretch drive carried the 2-year-old daughter of High Cotton to victory in her first lifetime start at 5 1/2-furlongs over the Saratoga turf course on Aug. 12.

Zero Zee didn't get the easiest of trips after breaking from post eight in the field of 10. Bumped about soon after the start, she took up a spot in the three-path going into the turn. The dark bay was forced even wider coming to the head of the stretch as she was making her move for the lead.

With foes bearing down on either side, Zero Zee held off all comers to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:03.25 on the firm turf (VIDEO).

The winner is owned by Matthew Schera and bred in Florida by Woodford Thoroughbreds. The filly is out of Vindy City, winner of the 2010 Miss Preakness S., and sold to Schera for $125,000 at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton Select Yearlings sale.

High Cotton has been in the top five on the 2016 Florida Sire list for the entire year, and currently ranks second among active Florida sires by progeny earnings and first by winners, with 57.
