Gourmet Dinner gets up in the Majestic Light S.
Ocala Stud bred and sold Gourmet Dinner closed with a flourish in the final quarter mile to prevail by a neck in the $100,000 Majestic Light S. July 29 at Monmouth Park. The 4-year-old colt has now won four stakes in his career, topped by a victory in the $1 million Delta Jackpot (G3) in 2010.

Gourmet Dinner tracked the speed in the 1 1/16-mile contest until the field turned for home, then made a swooping move to the lead to hook up for a stretch duel with Ponzi Scheme, who had been up on the pace the whole trip. The two horses battled to the wire, with Gourmet Dinner holding the edge at the finish to hit the wire in 1:44.20.

Gourmet Dinner, by Trippi, was returning to the main track after three straight turf starts, including a third in the Elkwood S. at Monmouth in May. Owned by Our Sugar Bear Stables, Gourmet Dinner is now 5-2-2 in 14 starts, with $1,067,277 in earnings. Ocala Stud sold Gourmet Dinner for $40,000 at the 2010 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale in April of that year.
