Damon's Mound glides to a 12 1/2-length victory at Churchill Downs - Coady photography

Damon’s Mound sprinted away from the field at the top of the Churchill Downs stretch to break his maiden by an eye-opening 12 ½-lengths in a six-furlong maiden special weight race July 2 at Churchill Downs (WATCH RACE).

The 2-year-old Girvin colt was named a TDN Rising Star, the first for his sire, and earned a stellar Beyer Speed Figure of 84.

Damon’s Mound was fifth early on, then went four-wide around the turn and took the lead with ease at the top of stretch. Hand-ridden the whole way, he powered clear from the field to with consummate ease.

Owned by his breeders Cliff and Michele Love, Damon’s Mound is the first foal out of the stakes-placed San Antonio Stroll, who had a Girvin filly in 2021 and a colt by the Ocala Stud stallion in 2022.

Along with Rol Again Dancer, Damon’s Mound was one of two winners on the day for their sire, who currently ranks third on the 2022 First-Crop Sire list.
