In Summation, a two-time Santa Anita track-record holder and Grade 1-winning millionaire, has been retired from racing and will return home to Florida to start his new career as a stallion in 2010 at J. Michael O’Farrell Jr.’s Ocala Stud Farm.

A Florida-bred, In Summation had an illustrious and lengthy racing career that made him one of the fastest and most accomplished performers from the Sunshine State towards the latter half of this past decade. His racing career spanned five years and included 11 stakes wins – 4 of them graded – with earnings of $1,266,166.

In Summation’s biggest win came in the 2007 Bing Crosby H. (G1) at Del Mar over a field that included multiple Grade 1 winners. Perhaps his most electrifying performances were in back-to-back graded stakes wins at Santa Anita in 2008 where he set two track records at the hallowed sprinter distances of 6 furlongs and 5 ½ furlongs. In Summation won the El Conejo H. (G3) in 1:01.27 for 5 ½ furlongs – a record that still stands, and he returned just three weeks later to win the six-furlong Palos Verdes H. (G2) in 1:06.67, which was a few ticks off the world record at the time. Total, he set four track/course records or stakes records in his career.

In Summation began his racing career in May of his 2-year-old season with a 4 ¾-length victory at Calder, and he would go on to win four consecutive stakes by a combined 25 ½ lengths, including winning the Dr. Fager S. – the first leg of the FSS – with a 102 Beyer Speed Figure. He fell a nose short of sweeping the FSS and finishing his juvenile season a perfect 6-for-6 with a narrow defeat in the In Reality S.

In Summation would go on to race in 28 consecutive stakes – 14 of them graded – on all surfaces across North America after his lone start against maidens at two, never facing allowance company in five seasons of racing. Trained by Christophe Clement for owner Waterford Stable, he retires with a record of 12-6-1 from 29 starts and earnings of $1,266,166.

“In Summation fits the bill of what we look for in a stallion,” said O’Farrell. “People in Florida know him well. He was an immensely talented and durable racehorse, and we have high hopes for his career as a stallion.”

By Put It Back out of the multiple stakes-producing Dayjur mare Fiesta Baby, the 7-year-old In Summation is the latest addition to the roster at Ocala Stud, which has produced Florida’s Leading Sire nine of the last 11 seasons. In Summation will stand 2010 for a fee of $4,000 stands and nurses.
