Adios Charlie’s 4-year-old filly Epona’s Hope captured her third straight race Saturday at Gulfstream Park with a 1 ¼-length victory over Just a Care in the $115,000 Captiva Island S.
Just as she did in last month’s Lady’s Turf Sprint S., Epona’s Hope went right to the front in Saturday’s five-furlong turf affair and never looked back. She maintained a 2-3 length advantage most of the trip before gearing down a bit late to win comfortably in :54.78 on a firm course.
“She’s a hard filly to catch, and even when they do catch her she digs in and gives it that extra effort,” winning trainer Eddie Plesa said. “It looked like that [Just a Care] was going to run on by her but if you watch the gallop out that horse never got by her. She’s got the guts and determination that you want to see in a Thoroughbred. We’re just lucky to have her.”
Epona’s Hope is owned by Leon Ellman, Glassman Racing LLC and Laurie Plesa. The bay filly was bred by Ocala Stud & Edward Wiest & William J. Terrill. Out of Alotofappeal, she is a half-sister to stakes winners King Cab and B C’s Train.
Epona’s Hope is now 6-1-3 in 12 starts and has earned $364,118.
