Monday, January 17, 2011

Montbrook's Big Drama made more history on Jan. 17 in Miami when he was named the 2010 Male Sprint Champion during the 40th Eclipse Award ceremony. Big Drama won the Ponche H. and Smile Sprint H. (G2), both at Calder, before topping off the year with a win in the 2010 Breeders' Cup Sprint Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs.

Big Drama's big wins helped propel Montbrook to second place on the 2010 Florida general sire list, with just shy of $4 million in progeny earnings. Montbrook topped all Florida stallions with 13 stakes wins on the year. In addition to the Big Drama, Montbrook sired Grade 2 winners Shadowbdancing and Amen Hallelujah, as well as Grade 3 winner Tackleberry.

Big Drama showed his Eclipse Award worthiness when he kicked off his 2011 campaign on Jan. 15 in stellar fashion with a track record-setting performance in the $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3) at Gulfstream Park, earning a 119 Beyer Speed Figure, one of the highest numbers of the past several years.

Big Drama was bred in Florida by owner Harold Queen. Out of Riveting Drama, 6-year-old Big Drama is a half brother to Little Drama, who was a stakes winner last year at age two. He is trained by David Fawkes.
