Lady Runner became the second winner for first-year sire Battalion Runner on Aug. 4 when the 2-year-old filly scored a maiden special weight win at Camarero Race Track in Puerto Rico.
The dark bay filly won a race-long battle with Bella Largo by three-quarters of a length, getting the five furlongs in 1:00.28 on a fast track.
Lady Runner is owned by Establo Torres Pagan and was bred by John Shaw. She is the first foal out of multiple winner Lady Boots. This is the family of multiple Grade 1 winners Finder’s Fee and Tax Ruling and Grade 2 winner T. D. Vance.
A $700,000 Keeneland September yearling, Battalion Runner was produced from the Tapit mare Tamboz, a full sister to Tapizar, from the deep female family of Grade 1 winners Olympio, Untapable, Cuvee, and Paddy O Prado.
