A colt from the second crop of Awesome Slew was one of the top three lots sold during Tuesday’s OBS October Yearling sale held in Ocala.
The bay colt, hip No. 100 consigned by Sue Vacek, agent, went to Champion Equine LLC for $150,000, the third-highest figure for the day.
The Florida-bred is out of the top-class Distorted Humor mare Cash Reserve, who has accounted for six winners from seven starters, including the stakes-placed duo of Reckling and Campy Cash.
Cash Reserve, who is out of Alcibiades S. (G2) winner Private Treasure, is a half-sister to stakes winners Sam Lord’s Castle and Golden Locket.
Awesome Slew, whose first crop are 2-year-olds of 2022, had a stakes exacta as a sire on Oct. 1 when Awesome Strong and Tigre finished 1-2 in the $400,000 FTBOA Florida Sire In Reality S. at Gulfstream Park. Both colts had also been stakes-placed prior to the In Reality.
Awesome Slew currently ranks 11th nationally and first in Florida on the First-Crop sire list.
