Another 2yo stakes winner for Sweetsouthernsaint
Monday, August 31, 2009
Ocala Stud stallion Sweetsouthernsaint got his second 2-year-old stakes winner of the season when his daughter Her Sweet Saint streaked to an impressive 4 ¾-length triumph in the $60,000 Northern Lights Debutante S. on August 30th at Canterbury Downs.

Her Sweet Saint, a full sister to multiple stakes winner Saint Knows, broke on top and flashed great speed, opening up on the field in the six-furlong event. She swung into the stretch all alone and continued to run away from her rivals, easily drawing off to hit the wire in 1:13.70.

A chestnut filly bred in Minnesota by B & D Thoroughbreds, Her Sweet Saint won for the second time in three starts, capturing her first career stakes win in her stakes debut. She decisively won her debut in June for trainer Victor Hanson before incurring a disastrous trip in an allowance race last month where she finished off the board.

She rebounded nicely in the Northern Lights to move has earnings to $47,330 for owner Wayne Simon.

Also this weekend, Sweetlalabye just missed after a troubled trip in the $150,000 Susan’s Girl S. – the second leg of the Florida Stallion Stakes series at Calder. The 2-year-old filly impressively won the first leg of the FSS earlier this month taking the $100,000 Desert Vixen S., and she figures to be one of the favorites in next month’s $400,000 My Dear Girl S. – the last leg of the FSS.
