Tank brushed off Good Long Cry at the top of the Tampa Bay Downs stretch to win the $110,000 Sophomore Turf S. on March 30 by two lengths.
Sunday’s win marked the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old son of Adios Charlie, who was second in Gulfstream Park’s Armed Forces S. in November. Tank is the 15th lifetime black type winner for Adios Charlie.
After a good start, Tank was a clear second to Koctel War going into the first of two turns. The early leader set a mild pace through the first six furlongs, going in 1:12.07. Tank unleashed a strong kick at that point to take command, with Good Long Cry mounting a serious bid as well. After a brief tussle, Tank shook clear and pulled away in the final furlong, with Win With Faith finishing a non-threatening second.
Tank is owned by his breeder Arindel. The bay colt now sports a record of 2-2-1 in eight starts and has earned $149,460.
