Adios Asher and Daufuskie Island staged a thrilling stretch duel in the Aspirant S. on Monday at Finger Lakes, with the 2-year-old son of Adios Charlie prevailing by a nose in what was his stakes debut.

The bay colt got the jump on the field out of the gate, leading by a length through a quarter-mile in :22.22. Daufuskie Island cut into the margin on the turn and took a short lead in upper stretch. Adios Asher battled back along the inside, and the pair raced to the wire together, with Adios Asher getting his nose in front on the wire.

Adios Asher, who was coming off a dominating maiden win on Aug. 20 at Arlington Park, is now 2-0-1 in three starts and has earned $91,045 for Patricia’s Hope LLC and Richard Ravin, the latter also the colt’s breeder.

Out of Rooney Doodle, Adios Asher is a full brother to multiple graded stakes winner Jean Elizabeth and multiple stakes winner Dugout. Rooney Doodle was bred back to Adios Charlie for 2022.

A perennial top-five Florida sire, Adios Charlie’s progeny have earned $1.8 million this year, topped by Charles Town Oaks (G3) winner R Adios Jersey.
