Kantharos’ leading 3-year-old X Y Jet turned in the best performance of his career in Saturday’s $100,000 Mr. Prospector S. (G3), rocketing to a 9 ¼-length victory and earning a stellar 107 Beyer Speed Figure.

The lone 3-year-old in the field of seven, the speedy gray left the field in his wake with a devastating turn of foot between the half and quarter mile poles, and then kept rolling through the stretch to stop the clock in 1:08.56 for the six furlongs, less than a half second off the Gulfstream track record.

I think he’s a nice horse. My next Private Zone,” said trainer Jorge Navarro, referring to this year’s Forego S. (G1) winner and GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) runner-up.

“A 3-year-old, doing this, beating older horses?”, Navarro continued. “We’re going to take a look at how he comes out. Hopefully, everything comes out good and we’ll go from there.”

Owned by Gelfenstein Farm, X Y Jet has now racked up $214,683 in earnings, with a record of 4-5-1 in 12 starts. Prior to his current three-race winning streak, he had runner-up finishes in the Hutcheson S. (G3) and Pasco S.

Kantharos, with five stakes winners this year, is Florida’s only Second-Crop sire to have more than one added money winner. His $1.7 million in 2015 progeny earnings is twice as much as any other Florida Second-Crop sire.
