Undefeated Kantharos filly takes Lake George S. (G2)
Saturday, July 23, 2016
Kantharos' stellar 3-year-old filly Ancient Secret kept her record intact with a determined 1 1/4-length score in the $200,000 Lake George S. (G2) Friday at Saratoga.

Kantharos is Florida's leading active sire of 2016 by progeny earnings, graded stakes winners, black type winners and black type wins.

Winner of the $100,000 Wild Applause S. a month ago, the Lake George was Ancient Secret's first graded stakes start. As she did in the Wild Applause, the chestnut filly got a good stalking trip before unleashing her run outside the quarter pole. Coming three-wide into the stretch, she assumed command and retained control the rest of the way with a relentless stretch run.

The final time for the 1 1/16-miles was a very solid 1:40.35, good for a lifetime-best 91 Beyer Speed Figure.

"She's a remarkable horse," said Brown of Ancient Secret. "She always trained like a really quality animal, we just gave her little incremental goals and she's hit them all. I wasn't quite sure about the two turns. I know she's a top-class horse but I was curious to see what she was going to do when the gates opened and she passed the test."

Ancient Secret is now 4-for-4 following Friday's win. She has earned $259,000 for her owner Alpha Delta Stables.  She sold for $225,000 at the 2015 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale.

The winner was bred in New York by Lambholm and is the second foal out of Privacy, from the female family of Blue Grass S. (G1) runner-up Conte Di Savoya.
