Katie’s Kiss blows by field in Summer Winds S.

Florida’s leading Second-Crop sire Kantharos added to his impressive tally on Sunday when Katie’s Kiss scored a come-from-behind victory in the $75,000 Summer Winds S. at Gulfstream Park.

The 3-year-old filly is the third stakes winner of the year for her sire, who is nearing the $1 million mark in progeny earnings this year. His 18 winners to date also lead all Florida sophomore sires.

Katie’s Kiss was behind a wall of horses early in Sunday’s five furlong contest. With no room to the inside, her jockey Tyler Gaffalione guided her five-wide around the bend. Coming into the lane full of run, she swooped past most of the field and wore down Huasca to win by a half-length in :59.58.

Katie’s Kiss, twice stakes-placed prior to Sunday, is now 3-2-2 in ten starts and has earned $136,334 for Stonestreet Stables. The Florida bred filly is a half-sister to the stakes winner Stonestreet Song and was bred by Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck.
