Cajun Delta Dawn continues unbeaten streak in $300K Susan's Girl S.
Saturday, September 3, 2016
Kantharos' brilliant 2-year-old filly Cajun Delta Dawn turned in the best race of her career on Saturday with a powerful five-length win in the $300,000 Susan's Girl S. at Gulfstream Park.

The Curtis Mikkelsen filly has not lost in four starts, including three stakes wins, and has earned $381,105.

Cajun Delta Dawn is one of Kantharos' five stakes winners and nine black-type horses in 2016, propelling him to the top of this year's active Florida sires' list.

Coming into the Susan's Girl with stakes wins in the Cassidy S. and Desert Vixen S., Cajun Delta Dawn flashed speed immediately from the rail. After an early duel with Lu Lu Laura, she put her foe away at the half-mile mark and drew off in the stretch to win easily.

“It was pretty easy. From the get-go, I got her into the race and once I got there, she was just dragging me the whole way. I said, ‘Man, this is going to be a walk in the park,’ and sure enough it was,” jockey Juan Leyva said. “She felt great in the stretch.”

Cajun Delta Dawn will be prepared for a sweep of the FSS series for 2-year-old fillies in the $500,000 My Dear Girl Oct. 1.

“She’s done everything right. She gave me more confidence today than in any of her other races,” trainer David Fawkes said. “It was an impressive race. She was just galloping along, enjoying herself.”
