William Stiritz’s Wildwood Kantharos led at every call en route to a 1½-length victory in Saturday’s $53,700 Purple Violet S. at Arlington Park. The 3-year-old daughter of Kantharos is the fifth stakes horse this year for her sire, who tops Florida’s Second Crop Sire list.
Away alertly under rider Chris Emigh, Wildwood Kantharos set a comfortable pace with early splits of :23.80, :47.56. She opened up five lengths in mid-stretch before gearing down late to finish the one-mile trip in 1:39.65 (

“It looked good because I was the lone speed, and hopefully we would get a decent pace and have enough left to finish,” said Emigh.
Out of the El Corredor mare My Felina, Wildwood Kantharos was bred in Illinois by Brinker Hill Farm, Inc.
