The Green Crusader draws off to wins Gulfstream Park MdSpWt

First-Crop sire Greenpointcrusader got his third maiden special weight winner Saturday at Gulfstream Park when The Green Crusader rolled by Hoorayhoorayhooray at the top of the stretch to tally a 2 1/4-length victory.

The Green Crusader got a rail trip most of the way from his inside post position in the seven-furlong contest for 2-year-olds. He came off the rail only to pass a fading Gone Nuts in the middle of the turn, then ducked back inside to make his way to the lead. He took command with little resistance and was running strongly at the finish.

The winner is owned, bred and trained by John Shaw. He is the latest of three foals out of Hi Hannah, with the previous two winning multiple starts.

Greenpointcrusader won the Champagne S. (G1) and is out of the top-class producer Ava Knowsthecode, who is the dam of six stakes winners, including Grade 1 winner Justin Phillip. Greenpointcrusader stood the 2021 season for $3,500 S&N.
