Turbulent Descent became the third Graded stakes winner of 2011 bred by Ocala Stud, when she set a new stakes record winning the $250,000 Santa Anita Oaks (G1).

The 3-year-old filly who was bred, raised and sold by the O’Farrell family’s nursery, bettered the 30-year-old stakes record set in 1980 by Hall of Famer Bold ’n Determined. Turbulent Descent stopped the clock in 1:41.05, defeating a fine field which included previous Grade 1 winners Zazu and A Z Warrior.

By Champion Freshman Sire Congrats and out of Roger’s Sue, by Forestry, Turbulent Descent has now won four times in five starts, and earned $528,350. Her lone second came last time out, in the Las Virgenes S. (G1) on February 5.  As a 2-year-old of 2010, Turbulent Descent won all three of her starts, including the Hollywood Starlet (G1) and Moccasin Stakes, and was the co-second highweight on the Experimental Free Handicap for Fillies.

Ocala Stud sold Turbulent Descent for $160,000 at the 2010 Ocala Breeders’ Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training to Scott Sherwood’s Blinkers On Racing. The filly races now for a partnership that includes Blinkers On, Dave Aurelio, Robert Butler, and Joleen Coons. Turbulent Descent is just the third foal from her dam, who also has a 2-year-old colt by Trippi and a 4-year-old filly by Montbrook going for her.

Ocala Stud is also the breeder of 2011 Grade 2 winners Tackleberry and Vuelve Ruben M ., as well as Fountain of Youth (G2)-runner-up Gourmet Dinner, all of whom were also sold as two-year-olds. In 2010, Ocala Stud was America’s Leading breeder of U.S. Graded stakes winners.
