Adios Charlie's “win machine” Jean Elizabeth tried the turf for the first time in her career on Saturday and came away a half-length winner in the $150,000 Ladies Turf Sprint S. at Gulfstream Park.
The now 5-year-old mare has won six consecutive starts, all of them in stakes, dating back to last August. Her overall record is a remarkable 13-4-2 in 19 starts with earnings of $562,668 for her owner/breeder duo of Larry Rivelli and Richard Ravin.
Jean Elizabeth chased in second behind Girls Know Best until she ran down the post-time favorite inside the furlong marker to hit the wire in :55.26 in the five-furlong contest.
“I rode her last time and she beat the favorite on dirt,” rider Irad Ortiz said. “I was told the filly would like the turf, so I rode her with confidence. Today, I let her settle a little bit and at the quarter pole, I asked her and she was there for me.”
Jean Elizabeth was Adios Charlie's leading runner in 2019 and helped put him atop the Florida General Sire list with $3,767,013 in progeny earnings. He is standing this year at Ocala Stud for $4,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
