High Cotton filly 'Sprints' to first stakes win at Gulfstream
Saturday, November 12, 2016
R Angel Katelyn prevailed in her first stakes start of her career in the $100,000 Juvenile Filly Sprint S. at Gulfstream Park West.

It was just the third career outing for the 2-year-old daughter of High Cotton, following a super-impressive five-length maiden debut win and a solid second in a Delaware Park allowance on Oct. 8.

The dark bay filly is the fourth stakes winner of the year for High Cotton, who is the second leading active sire on Florida's 2016 General Sire List.

Always well-positioned, R Angel Katelyn stalked 7-5 favorite Wildcat Kate for the entire trip, eventually getting by her in deep stretch to claim the half-length win in 1:17.30 for the 6 1/2-furlongs.

The winner is now 2-1-0 in three starts and has earned $87,120 for co-owners Averill Racing LLC and CCF Racing Stable.
