Dream of Me rallied up the inside of the Gulfstream Park stretch to capture the $200,000 Dr. Fager S. by 2 ¼ lengths on Saturday afternoon in a race that kicks off the 2015 Florida Sire Stakes season.

Dream of Me broke alertly to press the pace set by Mr. Kisses along the backstretch and around the turn. Coming into the final two furlongs, Dream of Me dropped to the inside under the guidance of jockey Eduardo Nunez, drawing off to win smartly in 1:12.11 for the six furlongs over a good main track that got some rain in the middle of Saturday’s card.

“He's classy. When they have that kind of class, they'll just keep going at it. There's no telling how far he can go,” trainer Anna Varsi said. “We're going to try and sweep [the series].”The Dr. Fager is the first of three Florida Sire Stakes races for 2-year-old males, followed by the $300,000 Affirmed at seven furlongs on Sept. 5 and the $500,000 In Reality at 1 1/16 miles on Oct. 3.

Dream of Me, who broke his maiden on July 26 over the same surface, is now 2-0-0 in three starts and has earned $150,440 after the $120,000 payday.

The gray or roan colt was bred in Florida by the McKathan Brothers and is owned by Kathy Machesky.

High Cotton, a top-10 Florida sire, has progeny earnings in excess of $1 million in 2015 and nearly $6 million lifetime.
