High Cotton 2yo Spurious Precision dazzles in Spa debut

High Cotton, Florida's No. 1 Freshman Sire of 2011, has gotten off to a flying start with his juveniles again in 2012.

Spurious Precision, a 2-year-old colt from the second crop of High Cotton, made an impressive debut at the races on July 21st, capturing the first prestigious maiden special weight for juvenile colts on opening weekend at Saratoga.

A $105,000 OBS 2-year-old graduate earlier this year, Spurious Precision flashed sharp speed from the gate and drew away in the stretch with good-looking strides. The bay colt zipped 5 ½ furlongs in a crisp 1:03.49, earning a rock-solid 91 Beyer Speed Figure and looking like a promising star with a stakes future.

Last year at Saratoga, High Cotton burst onto the scene with another flashy juvenile colt. Currency Swap debuted an impressive winner before going on to win the Hopeful S. (G1) later in the meet.

The win in the $80,000 maiden special weight gives Spurious Precision $48,000 in earnings for trainer Rick Violette and owner Klaravich Stables, Inc. and William Lawrence—also the owners of Currency Swap.

Spurious Precision is a Florida-bred out of the Scarlet Ibis mare Scarlet Combo. He was bred locally by Michael Chamberlain.
