Florida Fabulous, a run-away debut maiden winner on Feb. 16, backed up that stellar performance with another terrific display Friday afternoon when the 3-year-old High Cotton filly strolled home the easiest of winners in a one-mile allowance contest at Gulfstream Park.
Florida Fabulous came out of the gate swiftly and soon assumed command as the field entered the main track. Flying through fractions of :22.89 and :44.65, the bay filly began to widen her lead on the turn. Jockey Paco Lopez took a few looks back for the competition coming into the stretch, but saw no threats, and went to a hand ride in the final furlong.
The winner covered the mile in 1:35.18 on a fast main track.
“We were excited about running her. I thought she'd run like this, but you're always nervous. After a win, the next step is always the toughest,” trainer David Fawkes said. “They tried her the whole way and I was really surprised. I expected her to come back blowing like a freight train and she wasn't. She walked in here composed like it was just another breeze.”
Bred in Florida by Ocala Stud, Florida Fabulous is a half-sister to Swale S. (G2) winner Travelin Man, Gulfstream Park H. (G2) winner Discreet Dancer and stakes winner Sweet N Discreet.
Ocala Stud sold Florida Fabulous at the 2016 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale, where she brought a winning bid of $400,000 from Mike Ryan, agent.
