High Fashion Lady came from well off the pace to break her maiden on Aug. 3 at Colonial Downs, taking the one-mile maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies by 1 ½-lengths (WATCH RACE).

She is the third winner from the first crop of Awesome Slew, with his winners coming at distances from 4 ½-furlongs up to one mile. Awesome Slew, who won more than $1.2 million while facing the best of his generation, was a graded stakes winner at three and four and placed in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1), Forego S. (G1) and Carter H. (G1). He stood the 2022 season for $4,000 S&N.

High Fashion Lady sat well off the early pace in the one-turn race. Passingthemistery sprinted out to lead the field by several lengths through a half-mile in :46.19. The pacesetter began to weaken on the turn, with Sherlyn Go Go taking the lead at the top of the stretch. High Fashion Lady still had three lengths to make up with a furlong to run, and steadily closed the gap to prevail in 1:39.98 on the fast main track.

The winner was bred by Tonya Jurgens and is owned by the partnership of Harold Lerner LLC, AWC Stables, Magdalena Racing and Nehoc Stables. High Fashion Lady sold for $70,000 at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearling sale. Her dam Fashion Bee has a yearling full sister to High Fashion Lady.
