R Disaster cruises to victory in the 2026 Hurricane Bertie S. (G3) - Lauren King

R Disaster looked as good as ever in Saturday’s $175,000 Hurricane Bertie S. (G3) at Gulfstream Park, rolling to a 5 ½-length victory in her first start in four months.

Now 5-years-old, the daughter of Awesome Slew won last year’s Gallant Bloom S. (G2) and remarkably has never been worse than second in 14 career starts.

Keen for the lead right from the break, R Disaster had a narrow advantage over Lynn’s Milky Way down the backstretch. Midway on the far turn, R Disaster began to pull away from her pursuers and turned for home with a two-length lead. Down the stretch she was full of run and was eased up late to finish the 6 ½-furlongs in 1:16.28.

“She broke well and I didn’t take anything away from her. I just sat there and she did everything easy. That was just her, all her,” jockey Micah Husbands said. “She came back really good after her last race off the layoff and I’m so happy with the way she ran. She did it so easy today.”

Owned by Averill Racing LLC, Two Eight Racing LLC, and ATM Racing, R Disaster is 8-6-0 in her career with three stakes wins and earnings of $720,890. The bay was bred in Florida by Ocala Stud & J. Michael O'Farrell Jr. and is out of Making Havoc, who is a half-sister to four-time stakes winner R Adios Jersey.
