Awesome Banner sharp in Big Cypress S.
Saturday, June 4, 2016
Awesome of Course's Grade 2 winner Awesome Banner dropped out of graded company for an easy win in Saturday's $75,000 Big Cypress S. at Gulfstream Park.

Bet down to the prohibitive 3-5 favorite, Awesome Banner bided his time in the three path as he contested the lead with two horses to his inside. Going into the turn, the Jacks or Better Farm homebred began to pull clear. Coming into the stretch, he got a brief challenge from Li'l Meatball, but galloped away again to win by 2 3/4-lengths.

“He’s a nice horse. He felt great. I tried to hold him back, but he didn’t want it—he’s very strong,” jockey Elvis Trujillo said. “I let him go and he relaxed. At the three-eighths (pole) I asked him a little bit and he took off again. He’s very nice.”

Awesome Banner's four victories include wins in this year's Swale S. (G2) and Hutcheson S. (G3). The bay colt, who is undefeated in four one-turn starts and has banked $272,935.

Awesome of Course is the sire of three stakes winners to date in 2016, second behind only fellow Ocala Stud stallion Kantharos on the Florida General Sire list.
