Adios Trippi did all the tough work on the front end while managing to finish in a dead heat with Special Princess in Saturday's $125,000 Gasparilla S. at Tampa Bay Downs.

The 3-year-old daughter of Adios Charlie was already making her second start of the year after finishing third in the Cash Run S. on New Year's Day at Gulfstream Park.

Despite the relatively quick comeback, Adios Trippi broke very well and took the lead soon after the start. She sped through fractions of :22.57 and :45.65 with a 1 1/2-length lead. Digging in gamely in the stretch, she fought all the way to the wire to earn the win with the on-rushing Special Princess.

The final time for the seven furlongs was 1:24.89 on a fast track.

“She just ran against a tough group at Gulfstream two weeks ago and it was kind of a quick turnaround, but I liked the idea of wheeling her back from a mile to seven furlongs. She’s getting better with each race,” trainer Peter Walder said.

Adios Trippi is owned by Walder along with Paradise Farms Corp., Brian Hanley, Greg Boyer, and Scott Estes. The bay filly was bred in Florida by Laurin Stable.

After finishing in the top five once again on Florida's 2020 General Sire list, Adios Charlie is standing the 2021 season at Ocala Stud for $4,000 S&N.
