Dugout bests Bankit in the 2018 Funny Cide S. at Saratoga - NYRA photo

Dugout and Bankit staged a race-long duel in Friday's Funny Cide S. at Saratoga, exchanging leads the entire trip until Dugout prevailed by a nose in an extremely game performance.

The 2-year-old Adios Charlie colt, who broke his maiden first time out on July 23 at Saratoga, is now two-for-two with $151,250 in earnings for his breeders Larry Rivelli and Richard Ravin, who co-own the colt with Patricia's Hope LLC.

The five-horse field was fairly tightly bunched through the first three furlongs, when the top two started to separate themselves. Going along at a lively clip of :45.09 for the half-mile, they continued the spirited battle the rest of the way, with Dugout, on the outside, proving best.

The final time for the 6 1/2-furlongs was a solid 1:16.43.

Dugout is one of five stakes horses this year by Adios Charlie. In the group is stakes winner Jean Elizabeth, who is a full sister to Dugout.
