Shivaree extends streak in Limehouse S.

Awesome of Course's newly-turned 3-year-old colt Shivaree captured his second straight stakes, and third start overall, in Saturday's $75,000 Limehouse S. at Gulfstream Park.

The Jacks or Better homebred is undefeated in three outings since pairing up with jockey Emisael Jaramillo, and has now earned $145,155.

Winner of the Buffalo Man S. on Nov. 30, Shivaree sat several lengths off a very fast early pace on Saturday. Zaino Boy zipped through a quarter-mile in :21.50 and a half in :44.63. When that pace took its toll, Shivaree came rolling down the center of the track to win by 3 1/4-lengths in 1:10.91 for the six furlongs on a fast track.

“The (inside) post was a concern and they outfooted him. Fortunately, he was able to get out and he stayed steady. They went very fast in front of him and kudos to Emisael for staying busy around the turn because if he gets too far back away from them, I don’t think he catches up,” trainer Ralph Nicks said. “He’s just steady. He has kind of a high speed to him, but not really, really fast. He stays even; he doesn’t give up.”

Shivaree is out Jacks or Better's top-class producer Garter Belt, who has a remarkable produce record. All five of her foals to date are stakes-placed, with three of them stakes winners and all earning at least $100,000. Garter Belt herself was a two-time stakes winner and sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Jackson Bend.
