Mercury Marauder eye-popping stretch run in her Oct. 10 maiden special weight debut has her connections eyeing bigger prizes after the 2-year-old Roadster filly scored an 11-length win and was named a TDN ‘Rising Star’.
The gray/roan juvenile is the 16th individual winner for Roadster, second-most of any First-Crop sire. A little later in the day Roadster chalked up his 17th when Classic Roadster scored a maiden special weight win at Gulfstream Park.
Mercury Marauder made her way to the rail in the first quarter-mile, sitting just behind a trio of dueling frontrunners. After a half-mile in :45.37, she swung four-wide for the stretch run and quickly made her way to the front. With every stride she left her foes further behind and was in hand the final sixteenth to finish the 6 ½-furlongs in 1:16 on a fast track.
Mercury Marauder, who sold of $275,000 at this year’s OBS March Sale, is owned by LJSS Thoroughbreds, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Adelphi Racing Club & Final Turn Racing Stable LLC.
Bred in Florida by Ocala Stud & Edward Wiest & William J Terrill, Mercury Marauder is one of a dozen winners out of her late dam Alotofappeal, two of which, Epona’s Hope and King Cab, are multiple stakes winners. Alotofappeal’s foal is a yearling full-sister to Mercury Marauder.
