Ocala Stud’s Prospective sires first winner
Friday, June 9, 2017
Ocala Stud’s freshman sire Prospective, the three-time Graded stakes-winning son of Malibu Moon, was represented by his first winner on Friday when 2-year-old filly Happy River broke her maiden first-time out by a widening 3 ¾ lengths at Gulfstream Park.

Trained by Francisco D'Angelo, Happy River broke well and took command down the backstretch of the five-furlong race, before opening up on the far turn and drawing clear from her rivals. She hit the wire alone in 1:00.64 over a good and sealed local main track.

The dark bay filly earned $14,400 for the win for owners Alvajos Stable Inc. Happy River was bred in Florida by Robert B. Shoukry, and she is out of the three-time stakes-winning Valid Appeal mare Valid Forbes, an earner of more than $400,000 who captured multiple legs of the Florida Stallion series as a 2-year-old, including the Desert Vixen S. and My Dear Girl S. at Calder.

Prospective was a winner in seven of 17 lifetime starts on the track, including Graded stakes victories at both two and three. The striking, dark bay colt won the Grey S. (G3) as a 2-year-old before going on to win the Tampa Bay Derby (G2), Ohio Derby (G2), Pasco S., Victoria Park S., and Delta Mile S. as a 3-year-old at four different racetracks. He retired to Ocala Stud with earnings of $719,130.

Prospective currently stands at Ocala Stud for a fee of $4,000 S&N. His 2-year-olds have been well-received at the sales, with fillies bringing $145,000 and $120,000, and colts selling up to $100,000 at OBS.

Bred by Spendthrift Farm, Prospective is out of the stakes-winning Awesome Again mare Spirited Away, and was a $250,000 yearling purchase by owner John Oxley and trainer Mark Casse at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Sale.
